The summer season has arrived, so please be extra cautious when traveling the roads as there are more people out on the streets - walking, bike riding, and watering plants.
Assessor’s Office The Assessor’s Office are updating their Property Record Cards of property owners in the Town of Neversink over the next few months. They will be visiting each piece of property and taking photographs through September. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Gene Froehlich and/or Joan McNeill at 985-2262 ext. 323, 319.
Cell Tower I know cell towers and cell tower reception has been on everyone’s mind. The Town Board has been working diligently to bring service to our town. According to Homeland Towers, who would be erecting the tower, the cellular carriers have put a hold on funding for wireless infrastructure in the Neversink area due to the hard economic times. We are working with the City of New York, who is a large customer of Verizon, and hopefully the pressure they can place on them will bring service to our town in the future. Unfortunately, the town has done everything we can and it is now up to the carriers to commit to our area. We will get service; it is just not as soon as I had hoped.
Community Beautification Several new quilts continue to be mounted on barns throughout the town…each one unique and stunning. I would like to remind everyone that the Renaissance will be doing their judging on August 9th. Now is the time to think about touching up and beautifying your property...every little bit helps the Town of Neversink toward their goal.
Dept. of Motor Vehicles The DMV will be at the Town Hall from 10 AM to 2:30 PM on August 14th and September 25th.
Grahamsville Fairgrounds With the rising price of gas, etc. we would just like to remind everyone that the fairgrounds is a wonderful and inexpensive way to spend the day. There are several hibachis located along the brook, as well as the pool, ball fields, tennis and basketball courts.
Hazardous Waste Days August 2nd and September 7th are the remaining days left for the Household Hazardous Waste Cleanup Days. The Household Hazardous Waste Cleanup event is open only to Sullivan County residents who pre-register for the event. Registration opened on April 7 and will be conducted on a rolling basis. For further info, call Bill Cutler at 794-4466 ext. 301.
NY-ALERT At July’s Town Board meeting, a representative from Sullivan County’s Emergency Management office explained to us a new program, NY-ALERT, which is also known as New York State’s All-Hazards Alert & Notification System. This program encourages individuals to sign up and receive emergency information such as major road closures and weather events and what protective actions are recommended by State, local governments and the private sector where appropriate. Each individual has the option of how they would like to be notified, whether by telephone, e-mail, fax or text message. For further info, please visit their website @ www.nyalert.gov.
Pool Permits Pool permits for the 2008 season are available at the Town Hall. The pool opened on July 2nd. Please contact the Town Clerk for the pool hours.
Sewer Project Update A meeting has been scheduled for September 3rd at 7:30 PM at the Town Hall for any interested contractors to explain the requirements for house connections and for decommissioning existing septics. We have also scheduled neighborhood meetings on September 17th (6:30 PM for Projects 1&2: State Rte. 55, Hastings Dr. & Hastings Ct.; and 8:00 PM for Projects 3&4: State Rte. 42, Big Hollow Rd., Rocky Hill Rd. & VanWagner Rd.) to answer questions pertaining to the hook-up of the new sewer as well as the de-commissioning of your existing septic system.
The Little World’s Fair Don’t forget to attend the annual Little World’s Fair which will be held on August 15th, 16th & 17th.
