            SUPERVISOR’S CORNER

By:  Chris Mathews, Town of Neversink Supervisor

DMV will be at the Town Hall on November 16th from 10 AM to 2:30 PM.

Congratulations to the Neversink Ag Society and the Daniel Pierce Library on pulling off another successful Little World’s Fair and Giant Pumpkin Party.  Thanks to the volunteers for all your hard work!

Neversink Renaissance  I attended the last Neversink Renaissance meeting of the season the other night.  I want to commend them on all of their hard work.  We had armies of volunteers show up for clean-ups and plantings throughout town.  The hanging baskets and all the gardens looked incredible this year.  Way to go!  Neversink Renaissance graciously decided to distribute the winnings from the Community Grant to the Time and the Valleys Museum, the Neversink Agricultural Society, Tri-Valley Little League and to the Town.  Their work on beautification and unifying the community is another one of the many things that makes our town special.

Reminder   The Town Hall will be closed for business but open for voting on November 7th for Election Day.  We will also be closed on November 10th for Veteran’s Day and November 23rd and 24th for Thanksgiving.

Route 42 Community Park  Wow, the Route 42 Park really came together this year.  Volunteers put the finishing touches on the pavilion, the bridge providing access to the fields was completed by Eagle Scouts, the walking path and the parking area were paved, and most importantly Little League played a successful season on the fields.   With the Little League playing season being over, Mr. Hayes, a teacher at Tri-Valley, and his students have been helping the Town maintain the fields.  They have taken soil samples and have identified ways to improve the grass and soil through fertilization.  The students will start applying seed and fertilizer at least three times before winter.  Please folks, stay off the fields during this process.  The Town Board is grateful for the opportunity to work with the school and wants to say thanks to Mr. Hayes and his students!  I am happy to say that we have brought the new park to completion.   This could not have been possible without the help from so many, especially Preston Kelly and the highway crew.    We have received so many positive comments.  It is great to see so many people enjoying it!  There is rarely a time when I ride by and don’t see someone either enjoying the walkway or playing a game of ball. The Town Board would like to thank all of the people who made this possible.  We look forward to seeing you all at the Grand Opening Ceremony that will take place this Spring.

Dog Waste Stations  If you plan to bring your dog for a walk at the Route 42 Community park or the Fairgrounds, we ask that it be leashed.  We have received some complaints of people not cleaning up after their dogs and we would not want to have to take that opportunity away; so please use the dog waste station located at the entrance to the walkway at the Route 42 Park and by the Pavilion at the Fairgrounds.  Let's keep the Town's Parks a clean and safe place for all to enjoy.

Huge Thank You and Appreciation to Ronnie VanAken for over 37 years   and Tom Ambrosino for over 29 years of dedication and commitment serving on the Town of Neversink Planning Board!  The Town of Neversink is extremely grateful for the many years of wisdom, knowledge and devotion they have dedicated to the town.  We wish them all the best in retirement!

As my first term is coming to a close, I am proud of what we have accomplished as a Board.    I enjoy working with the present town board and although we don’t always agree, everyone is always respectable and conducts themselves as gentlemen.  We are able to come together as a unified team all with the same passion and commitment to the Town of Neversink community!  I am deeply honored to serve as Supervisor and remain committed to the job and dedicated to all of you!  Please call with questions or comments.

On a personal note:  I want to say Happy 17th Birthday to my daughter Gillian and Happy 21st to my daughter Ashlyn!  I’m elated that they are turning into young ladies, but sad that it happened so darn quickly.
